Music Makes The Run

I created a new website for runners and others who want to find music on the Internet. Check it out at http://tbrunner.webs.com – Music Makes The Run. The site’s purpose is to help others find music for their Ipod or Mp3 players. The site is new and the list is growing on Links page. You can even recommend a site for submission. Check it out.

Schedules, hassles, adding to the mix

Unlike last year when I had been completely STOPPED in running for a couple of months, schedules and hassles have blocked my focus this year thus forcing me to push back my plans for a Half Marathon until next year. One of these years, I am going to do one. We have recently quit being foster parents and that has freed up much of our schedule. I’ve been making improvements in my running, both in distance as well as speed. What I am planning to do is put all my work into being focused for a Half Marathon in 2010. I was searching for one to attempt this Fall, but, am not sure if I can fit it in. Not to mention that I haven’t been training sufficiently enough to do more than just finish one. I have this head problem with being the last guy across the finish line. I don’t mind being like 7th or 10th from the last, but, last, can’t do it. If I was ever last for any race, it’s been rare.

Even though this is only the middle of August, I am just not sure how the rest of my “racing season” will be. I don’t race in the winter. This is probably something that I should consider, I don’t exactly like the idea of being an ice cube with sneakers.

This past week in running

During this past week in my running, I’ve ran a total distance of 7 1/2 miles and then 4.6 miles yesterday (Sunday). While it may not seem like much, both speed and distance is improving. Several years ago, I was running between 6 and 8 miles for my long runs. The last few years, my daily mileage fell to 2 to 3 miles for daily runs and up to 4 for my long runs. I don’t have a reason why this happened, but, up until now, I’ve been running very low mileage. Yesterday’s mileage was the most I’ve ran for a long run in a while and it was GREAT! I loved every mile of it. Yes, some of you would say “your sick Tim”. while, maybe, but, it’s a good kind of sickness, “Running Addiction”. This past week and Sunday have been the best running I’ve done is a long while and it’s been great. My goals for a half marathon are still pretty much still “on my to do list”. My current problem is fitting one in based upon my current work schedule. I won’t do a half on only 4 hours sleep. So finding one that fits my schedule is the challenge. Not to mention that I need 13 weeks to prepare. So, for this year, time is starting to run out.

Mifflinburg July 4th 5k Race

This past July 4th at Mifflinburg Park, was the 2009 Mifflinburg 5k race. There were 514 race finishers. I came in 378th place and am happy to say that I finished with a time of 30:30 as reported by my wife who saw the actual time as my foot crossed the finish line. Everyone has their favorite race and this one is mine. This race gets 5 stars from me. You can check out their website at www.mifflinburg5k.com
My running year is NOT complete if I don’t do this race. We runner’s need to remember that this race would not happen if it weren’t for those responsible for all that goes on to put the race together and manage it – here here!!!

Runner’s Challenge Canceled

While it was both a new event and an idea of mine, and the fact that with only 10 days to go, I decided to cancel the event. With no inquiries made though It could have been the fact that it may not have been marketed enough to get the word out. So, if you are reading this post and you were considering it, feel free to leave a comment to that fact. You never know, it could be tried again sometime. Hey! The fact we get out there at all on the road can sometimes be a challenge. Try something new!

Race for Women’s Health 5k in Lewisburg, PA

Wow, great weather, good course along with good people, what a combination! I finished 115th out of at least 160 runners (I think) with a time of 29:10 – YES! I new this morning was going to be good! I try to do this race every year. Held at the Lewisburg High school, a great place to host the race. Here’s to next year!
Great job to all those who ran this race!

Up to the challenge?

Comming soon, a Runner’s Challenge which kicks off May 6th, 2009. Sign up now. See the Runner’s Challenge section and/or call me for more details. Essentially, what this is, is a Weight Loss or Get Healthier Challenge with a twist. The twist is that you find an event that you have never done before and do it. Even if it means attempting to improve one a past event. The challenge last for 12 weeks and we meet once a week on my conference line for the Weight Loss / Get Healthier Challenge to share success stories, weight related issues, and to discuss the topic of the week. Then we determine the winner of the week. There will be two overall winners at the end. The winner of the Weight Loss Challenge and the winner of the Runner’s Challenge part. This is in a nutshell what this is about. Sign up soon if interested. Late entries are welcome up through week 4.

If you want to sign up, first review the Runner’s Challenge section then call or email me.

You know you had a good run when……

There are those runs that one has that you end up knowing that you have had a good run when you accomplish multiple things in one run and feel really good when you finish! My run today had 3 different focuses all wrapped up into one. They are: 1) Distance = 3 miles, 2) Hill runs, 3) Speed Drills – 2 and let me tell you, Wow! Total time for the run was 38 minutes. Finish time was not the objective. I’ve been known to combine different aspects into training runs in the past. I probably could have went another mile today, but kept it at 3 miles Not a bad start considering that my first race is just around the corner. Oh, I’ve longed for Spring…

Race Calendar developing for 2009

If you look to the right, you’ll see that my race calendar is mostly complete, but still in development. Currently there are 8 possible races listed. I am planning for a maximum of maybe 11 races this year. These include one or two more 5k or 10k races and a half marathon. I am hoping that this is the year that I finally get that goal behind me. It’s been like a thorn in my side. It won’t go away. It’s funny though, despite the fact that I am ruined when I finish a 10k race, I view that distance as simple. But, when it comes to the half, I respect the distance and somewhat fear doing it. However, I really want to tackle it some day. A few years ago, a runner at a 10k race I was in told me that it’s all about how you pace yourself when you do the half marathon.

Runner’s Challenge coming soon!

Well, we all love running of some form or another and it’s that time of year when most of us head out and put ourselves through torment of some kind. As part of my Herbalife business, I decided to offer a “Runner’s Challenge” to anyone interested. It’s a simple challenge. Although, any challenge isn’t really that simple if you put effort into it. If you want to spice up your running or if you want to get into running this is the time to do it.

If you are curious or interested, check out the Runner’s Challenge section for more information. What do you got to loose? Weight?

You know you want too..
